Prom-O-Ween - Strawberry Fist Cake's Sweet 16th and 30 years of No Idea
TLDR - Punk bands and prom Night Halloween dress-up! No Idea (30-year anniversary), Strawberry Fist Cake (16-year anniversary), Half Pints (Not an anniversary, but they’ve been around forever), Trauma Cats (From NSW, less old, but great), and PASH RASH (Also great, and she drinks wine now?)
Sweet baby cheesus! The festive and the zombie kind. What a time to be alive! The planets have aligned, my anus is in retrograde, and we have all survived to see this day. NO IDEA HAS MADE IT TO 30 YEARS! And as an added bonus, their adopted little foster sister they never wanted and who isn’t really part of the family, STRAWBERRY FIST CAKE has reached their sweet 16th!
NO IDEA: What you should appreciate most about No Idea, is that while looking for some content for their bio, it was discovered they still have an active link to their MySpace account. I don’t think I need to say much more than that. If I’ve missed anything, go have a listen to them and figure it out. Must be alright to still be kicking 30 years on!
STRAWBERRY FIST CAKE: Strawberry Fist Cake are a band that needs no introduction, because no one wants it, and yet they will scream it in your face while also screaming what an absolute delight they are. The important thing with them is that their lyrical content and musical talent is finally reminiscent of their age. Happy Sweet 16!
THE HALF PINTS: Look, their bio literally just says “Geelong, Home Brewed Drunk Punx”. Short, accurate, to the point…I’m here for it. They have been around longer than Fist Cake, less than No Idea, but probably played more than half their shows with both those bands. Waaaaiiiitttt…..they’re the other step bro’s in the family! Pretty sure we have all played in bands together and recorded on each other's albums too.
TRAUMA CATS: (real band with a real bio that I didn’t drunk write….) punk/post-hardcore band from Sydney, formed in the back alleys of 2024. Battle-hardened and no strangers to the Australian punk scene, they wasted no time taking their debut release on the road, touring from Brisbane to Hobart with plenty of stops along the way. The release was recorded and produced by Jason Whalley at the Pet Food Factory and mastered by Jason Livermore at the Blasting Room in Colorado. Drawing comparisons to Jawbreaker and Hüsker Dü, TRAUMA CATS channel hard-hitting themes and emotional intensity into fierce, melodic songs that stick.
Just to add my rant, though, because I’m drunk and as if anyone reads bios anyway. Go listen to Trauma Cats, they’re really sick. Chucked em on my playlist and really enjoying the tunes. Rated high 7 at least on the seven scale.
PASH RASH: is a girl and her guitar, screaming out stuff. This show is part of her acoustic mini tour for her debut single 'I DRINK WINE NOW’ - (AGAIN, one I didn’t write, because my offer of a bio was legit: SHE USED TO BE IN VON STACHE, BUT SHE DRINKS WINE NOW)
Yeah, so…sick bands, many slaborations for 30 years and 16 years and misc years. Most importantly….HALLOWEEEN!!! AND SWEET 16!! Surely that means a PROM NIGHT SLASHER THEME! Let's dress up for horror prom! I’ll work out the details when I’m less drunk….also let me know if you actually read this far. You deserve a prize. I’ve had every thought all at once and they’re my thoughts and I lost interest….wait….Shot?
